The Wave Sliders Journal has been running for three years now. Once a month, and sometimes more, we’ve shared stories, thoughts, and conversations about life and surfing.

Over the years, it has taken a few different forms - It started as a true journal-style series, with entries from myself and others sharing whatever was on our minds.

Eventually, it evolved into more of a Q&A-style blog.

As for what’s next, Stay tuned. We are working on something new!

But for now, let’s throw it back to this exact time three years ago: September 16, 2023. Here’s what I wrote for Wave Slider Journal Entry #019...

Sitting out back on Fort Pond, Montauk.

Summer is over but I just arrived - this feeling I often have of being late to the party, but a deeper knowing that I am always right on time. No judging, just attention.

I sit and stare at the pond, one moment content and another restless...again just attention.

My gaze is pulled away from the sun-soaked pond as I notice a flag far off in the distance lying dormant. I look back at the waters surface and see no afternoon ripples. My awareness bounces from the still water to the fallen flag as I try to figure out why this is so significant - I can't think in my normal way.

Then I hear a voice: "Should we surf?" YES! That's why this scene is so remarkable, surfing!

Slow down and see the world.

The Wave Sliders Journal was born from an ongoing search for meaning in this pointless pursuit we call surfing.

Maybe there’s no meaning to find at all. But the search has given way to some good stories...
