THE WAVE SLIDERS JOURNAL

ENTRY # 039

Written By: Dylan Bellingan

Intro By: Jack Ventura

Intro

I met Dylan four years ago, we were both vendors at a pop-up market in Encinitas. Dylan's authentic approach to life immediately caught my attention. His journey from landscaper to clothing brand owner, and now homesteader and father, embodies the kind of genuine evolution I think we all envy. Thanks for participating, Dylan! Enjoy the read everyone…

Who are you?

Share a few sentences explaining who you see yourself as these days...

--

I'm a man of God, a husband, a father, a surfer, photographer, and dreamer. A couple years back my wife and I moved down to Central America to live a quieter life, start a family, and live closer to the ocean. We ended up in a small surf town in southern Nicaragua and purchased a quarter acre plot of land just a quick walk from the beach. For work we make a living creating content for surf brands among various other side hustles.

What was your first job?

First jobs reveal a lot about who we are.

--

My very first job was during my summer vacations working on a Spanish speaking landscape crew for my dad. I lived in Texas at the time and the summers were scorching hot. To make things worse, I didn't speak a lick of Spanish, but I learned what hard work was and it was good practice getting out of my comfort zone. I took the job because that's the only job I could legally get at 15!

What have you learned through surfing that translates to everyday life?

What you have learned from surfing and how those lessons help you through daily livin'...

--

There's good days and bad days of surfing, and good and bad days in life. Surfing takes a lot of devotion, patience and practice, which is the same for anything you want to accomplish in life. Timing is everything. For me God's timing is perfect, so I try my best to always put my faith in that.

What is something you'd like to accomplish in the next 10 years?

Share a goal for the next decade, and how surfing might have influenced these aspirations.

--

I would like to be eating food off of my land, surfing with my kids and running a family business. Surfing is integrated deeply into all of my goals. It's something that brings my wife and I joy, and we hope and plan to share that with our kids. Growing food and farming goes hand in hand with that type of simple lifestyle. When the waves aren't good we will work our land and run our family business.

What Dylan Is Stoked On Lately...

Someone in the surf community you are stoked on:

Mikey February! He's from South Africa like I am, and just oozes style. If I could surf 10% as good as he does I would be stoked! HA. I think style is super important in surfing, probably the only thing that really matters in my opinion. If you don't have style, I don't care to watch you surf. Luckily for me, my wife has beautiful style so I can watch her surf all day.

A quote you like?

"All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them."

A place you want to visit that you have not been to yet?

I want to go to Europe, I have family there and the food and culture looks amazing. There's also tons of beautiful coastline and plenty of waves. So I hear.
