INTRO:
I first met Sean years ago at makers markets around San Diego. At the time, I was sewing board bags and selling them at random markets around town.
Many of those markets were in the Seaweed & Gravel parking lot in Leucadia, which feels like a different era now. Sean would be there helping his girlfriend, now wife, sell air plant jellyfish.
We’d exchange a few words, share a few beers, and I always appreciated his calm, confident and kind nature — no cool guy attitude often found around those parts.
We recently reconnected when Sean was getting ready for a family road trip up
the coast, and needed a few bags for his boards.
He scored waves, his boards traveled safely, and when he told me he enjoyed the WSJ series, I naturally asked him to contribute!!
A surfer, family man and genuinely kind person — everything I admire and want FARO to support.

My name is Sean Harrison and I am a Father, Husbands and surfer from Encinitas CA. I am the fourth Generation of my family to grow up and live in Encinitas.
I learned how to surf from my dad around 5 or 6 years old and have been ever since.
What was your first job?
First jobs reveal a lot about who we were.

My first job was Le papagayo in Leucadia. I was a broke San Diegutio Grad who needed a job that would let me surf in the mornings.
Francios was the owner at the time and he was generous enough to give an inexperienced highschool grad a job.
It worked great because I could surf during the day and work at night. I learned so much there and met so many cool people.
What have you learned through surfing that translates to everyday life?
What you have learned from surfing and how those lessons help you through daily livin'...

Surfing has taught me to stay determined and adaptable.
What is something you'd like to accomplish in the next 10 years?
Share a goal for the next decade, and how surfing might have influenced these aspirations.

I would like to teach my son to surf and pass the knowledge I have gather from surfing down to him. I hope to travel and surf with him around the world.

Noah Thornton. Him and his family has been a huge influence in Encinitas surf culture. Noah is an underground charger who shapes the most innovative surfboards. He is one of the best surfers to come out of Encinitas and one of the best shapers.
